Hon. Carl W. Vogt Mr. Vogt is Of Counsel (formerly a Senior Partner) in the Washington, DC office of Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P., a law firm with offices also in New York, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, London, Munich and Hong Kong. On leave of absence from Fulbright & Jaworski, Mr. Vogt served as the 15th President (interim) of his alma mater, Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts, during the 1999–2000 academic year. In 1996, Administrator David Hinson appointed Mr. Vogt as a member of the FAA Ninety Day Safety Review Committee. Also in 1996, Mr. Vogt was appointed by President Clinton as a member of the White House Commission on Aviation Safety and Security. Mr. Vogt was appointed by President Bush and confirmed by the Senate on June 22, 1992, as a Member and as Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board. In order to accept appointment to the Safety Board, he resigned his positions as senior partner and managing partner of the Washington office of Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. and as an elected member of the firm-wide policy committee. Mr. Vogt was appointed by President Bush and confirmed by the Senate in 1991 as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak). In 1990, Mr. Vogt was appointed by FAA Administrator James Busey as a member of the Aviation System Capacity Advisory Committee. Mr. Vogt currently serves as a Director of the Deutsche Scudder Mutual Funds, the ISI Managed Funds (mutual funds), The Yellow Corporation (trucking), American Science and Engineering, Inc. (drug and bomb detection equipment) and Waste Management, Inc. (waste disposal/recycling). He is a Trustee of Williams College, Chairman of the Flight Safety Foundation, a member of the Board of Visitors of the Airplane Owners and Pilots Association, a Director of the Air Transport Association Aviation Safety Alliance, an Industrial Fellow, Linacre College, Oxford University, Oxford, England, and a member of the American Council on Germany. Mr. Vogt is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He is Chair Emeritus of the American Bar Association Forum on Air and Space Law. He has served as a member of the Council of the Section of Administrative Law of the American Bar Association, as well as Chairman of its Special Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity. He has also served on the Executive Board of Trustees of the National Association of College and University Attorneys; as Chairman of the Labor Law Advisory Committee of the National Association of Manufacturers; on the Advisory Committee on Labor Relations to the General Counsel, American Hospital Association; on the D.C. Council of Advisors, National Center for Administrative Justice; as a member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Committee, Human Development Bureau, Greater Washington Board of Trade; as a member of the Consumer Affairs Committee, U.S. Chamber of Commerce; and as a member of the Task Force on Occupational Safety and Health, U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Forum on Air and Space Law, the Litigation and the Labor and Employment Law Sections of the American Bar Association and has been included in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law and The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Vogt has served as a member of the executive committee of the Board of Directors, Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington and was Chairman in 1988 of the Annual Congressional Dinner. He was Chairman, Law Firms Division, of the 1991 Greater Washington United Way Campaign. He was a Founding Trustee of the Chinquapin School for underprivileged boys in Highlands, Texas. Mr. Vogt was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Williams College, where he was a member of the senior honor society. He received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Williams College in June, 2000 and an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Monmouth College in May, 2002. Mr. Vogt served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958 to 1962 and was a jet fighter pilot with duty aboard the aircraft carrier USS Lexington in the western Pacific. He holds a commercial pilot's license. He attended the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley and graduated from the University of Texas Law School, Austin, Texas. Mr. Vogt and his wife Margrit have two grown daughters. They reside in Potomac, Maryland. |
