The Flight Safety Foundation (FSF)–Boeing Aviation Safety Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizes an individual for his or her lifetime commitment and contribution to enhancing aviation safety.

Nominees should have devoted efforts spanning two decades or more to enhance civil aviation safety and/or military aviation safety beyond the normal expectations of their particular job assignments. Nominations can be posthumous.

Nominations will be considered by an independent board. Criteria for judging nominations include the following:

  • The influence of the nominee’s contribution to enhancing aviation safety beyond the organization for which the nominee has worked;
  • The influence of the contributions on multiple facets of aviation safety (e.g., operations, training, design, regulation, etc.);
  • The international influence of the contributions;
  • The general recognition of the nominee as having been highly committed to aviation safety throughout his or her career; and,
  • Reflection of the nominee’s commitment in active participation in activities, initiatives or dialogue that seek to promote aviation safety.

Nominations should clearly describe the various contributions that would qualify the nominee as a lifetime contributor to aviation safety improvement and should describe the nominee’s influence on enhancing aviation safety in accordance with the above criteria. Nominations should include the names of at least two other individuals who have experience in aviation safety and could provide supporting information, if asked, for the nomination.

The recipient of the award — established in 2002 by the Foundation and The Boeing Co. — will receive a handsome, wood-framed, hand-lettered citation and a Waterford Crystal trophy on display at the Museum of Flight, Seattle, Washington, U.S. The recipient is given an etched Waterford Crystal memento engraved with his or her name and complimentary registration for the recipient and spouse or guest for the International Air Safety Seminar at which the award will be presented.

The nominating deadline is May 8, 2009.
