Flight Safety Foundation presented to Edward D. (Ted) Mendenhall For his unwavering devotion to business aviation safety. As director of flight operations for Gulfstream Aerospace Corp., Mendenhall was responsible for overseeing the certification and entry into service of several Gulfstream business jets. Low-key and gentlemanly, Mendenhall nevertheless was relentless in his pursuit of advanced safety systems such as the traffic-alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) and the terrain awareness and warning system (TAWS). Later, as chief of safety for Gulfstream, Mendenhall channeled his boundless energy toward ensuring that the aircraft-production environment not only was efficient, but safe. Now retired from Gulfstream, Mendenhall continues his work as vice chairman of the FSF Corporate Aviation Committee. He currently is leading an effort to introduce flight operational quality assurance (FOQA) programs, which collect and analyze data recorded in flight, to corporate aviation operations. Flight Safety Foundation is pleased to recognize Edward D. (Ted) Mendenhall for his contributions to aviation safety.
