Flight Safety Foundation Presented to Ronald M. McGregor For superlative achievement in the investigation of U.S. Air Force aircraft accidents, and development of risk-reduction tools for Lockheed Martin C-130 aircraft. Mr. McGregor has investigated several U.S. Air Force aircraft accidents as a specialist in fuel systems and fire-pattern analysis. His dedication and persistence in aircraft-accident investigation recently led to the identification of the probable cause of a C-130 accident after two separate formal investigative boards failed to reach conclusive determinations. Mr. McGregor devoted many hours to studying the flight data recording and cockpit voice recording from the C-130, which was ditched at sea after power losses from all four engines. He reviewed evidence collected by the formal investigative boards and conducted research on previous power-loss incidents ascribed to transient systems failures. His efforts enabled identification of fuel starvation as the probable cause of C-130 power-loss events and development of recommendations to prevent such occurrences. As a direct result of Mr. McGregor’s persistent and skillful investigation, the operators of C-130s worldwide now have new knowledge and tools required to achieve safer utilization of their aircraft. His distinguished service to aviation safety is proudly recognized by Flight Safety Foundation. FSF 51st annual International Air Safety Seminar
