Flight Safety Foundation presented to Capt. Daniel E. Maurino For his achievements in increasing awareness worldwide of human factors issues in flight safety and his leadership in implementing human factors initiatives in International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and recommended practices. As coordinator of the ICAO Flight Safety and Human Factors Study Program since its creation in 1988, Capt. Maurino has been instrumental in gathering human factors specialists from around the world to develop proactive approaches and systematic approaches to flight safety improvement. In organizing several global human factors symposiums and regional human factors seminars, he endeavored to reach the widest audience of government and industry professionals, and to encourage the sharing of ideas, problems and knowledge. Capt. Maurino assisted in the production of several issues of the ICAO Human Factors Digest and coauthored the book Beyond Aviation Human Factors. He supervised the incorporation of human factors elements in the standards and recommended practices contained in several ICAO annexes. Flight Safety Foundation and the award’s sponsor, Aviation Week & Space Technology, are pleased to recognize Capt. Daniel E. Maurino for his contributions to aviation safety.
