Flight Safety Foundation–Airbus presented to R. Curtis Graeber, Ph.D.
For his distinguished work in advancing aviation safety through progress in human factors research and development of programs based on that research. During a career at the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and currently at The Boeing Co., Dr. Graeber has contributed significantly to knowledge and improved practices concerning crewmember fatigue, circadian rhythm disruption, decision making, error management and long-range flight operations. His efforts have led to improved guidance for scheduling and crew alertness management, including programs for crew napping based on scientific data; two important error-management tools for airlines, the Procedural Event Analysis Tool and the Maintenance Error Decision Aid; integration of human performance considerations into aircraft design; and development of regulatory material guiding the certification of flight deck equipment to address flight crew error, including harmonization of U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and European Aviation Safety Agency prospective regulations. Dr. Graeber is the organizer and co-chairman of the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) Ultra-long-range Crew Alertness Steering Committee and is the chairman of the FSF Icarus Committee. Flight Safety Foundation and Airbus are pleased to recognize R. Curtis Graeber, Ph.D., for his contributions to aviation safety. FSF 59th International Air Safety Seminar Stuart Matthews |
