The Richard Teller Crane Founder’s Award is presented to EVA Airways ![]() For its corporate leadership in aviation safety programs and its superb safety record. EVA management has emphasized safety since the airline was formed 16 years ago, starting with a “total safety policy” for every aspect of aircraft maintenance and passenger service. EVA executive management’s commitment, support and involvement in creating a safety culture have led to a systematic approach to identifying risks and addressing them in all aspects of the business. It has followed the industry best practice of establishing an independent safety management department. EVA has provided leadership for other Asian airlines’ safety initiatives, including line operational safety audits, flight operational quality assurance, threat and error management, ground accident prevention, and a comprehensive safety management system. EVA has adopted the Flight Operations Assessment System, an innovative tool to manage operational risk both strategically and tactically, which arose from the Flight Safety Foundation’s Icarus Committee. The airline has participated in the FSF Ground Accident Prevention steering team, International Advisory Committee and International Air Safety Seminar Agenda Development Committee, as well as other aviation safety organizations and initiatives. Flight Safety Foundation and the award’s sponsor, the Friendship Fund, are pleased to recognize the corporate leadership and contributions of EVA Airways to aviation safety.
