presented to

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport

For leadership and achievements benefiting aviation safety, both on-site and in the wider aviation community.

Dallas/Fort Worth (Texas, U.S.) International Airport has formed partnerships with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Federal Aviation Administration to develop and demonstrate area navigation procedures for improving in-flight safety, and to upgrade airport surface detection equipment that provides radar surveillance of aircraft and airport service vehicles, helping controllers prevent runway incursions and determine the spacing between aircraft.

DFW, in partnership with the FAA Southwest Regional Office, has advanced the concept of perimeter taxiways around the ends of runways, eliminating the need for aircraft to cross active runways. The DFW-based concept was approved as a new national standard by the FAA, and is expected to reduce the risk of runway incursion accidents, reduce the volume of pilot-controller communications and increase airport efficiency.

DFW staff members have worked diligently with regulatory and industry groups to generate support for promising safety-related research and development projects.
Flight Safety Foundation is pleased to recognize Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport for its proactive work on behalf of aviation safety.
