The Honeywell Bendix Trophy for is presented to Dassault Aviation
For its conception, design and implementation of the EASy flight deck for Falcon business jets, which improves the interaction between pilots and their aircraft. The modern computerized interface between man and machine on the flight deck can be a source of error. Systems with overly complex operational requirements can require extensive head-down time for inputs, potentially reducing situational awareness, or can lead to incorrect programming. In designing the EASy flight deck, Dassault Aviation determined to reduce the number of distractions and misunderstandings caused by avionics. The goal of the EASy flight deck is to lighten the crew’s mental workload. All the strategic-planning information about the aircraft is centrally located and easy to read and understand. Situational information is provided on large screens directly in front of each pilot, with the highly detailed screens providing the power to locate and use the information most essential at any time during a flight. Each step in development of the system was tested by pilots to ensure that it was truly intuitive. The result was a reconfigured flight deck design that enables the crew to process information faster and react to changes more expeditiously. Flight Safety Foundation and the award’s sponsor, Honeywell, are pleased to recognize Dassault Aviation for its contributions to aviation safety.
