Flight Safety Foundation is presented to BAA For a 20-year history of involvement in apron/ramp safety improvement. BAA has produced a comprehensive aircraft-turnaround check process, agreement on the use of generic aircraft-turnaround plans, apron safety committees and joint audits with airlines at all seven of its U.K. airports. It has developed a knowledge base and data on airside accidents and incidents to target areas of concern and formulate plans for improvement. The company is working with specialists to create a human factors approach to apron/ramp safety. BAA’s airside inspections and audits include processes that have been adopted by many airports worldwide. The U.K. Civil Aviation Authority adopted the BAA Runway Inspections System as a national standard for certificated airports. The company propagates advanced apron/ramp safety practices through its learning and development programs. Its Safety Management Systems subject all aspects of apron and airside safety to hazard analysis and risk assessment. During the past 10 years, BAA has been directly involved in the development of safety-related documentation, standards and guidance for airside safety management at the regional, national and global levels. BAA has committed resources to Flight Safety Foundation’s Ground Accident Prevention (GAP) program. Flight Safety Foundation is pleased to recognize BAA for its contributions to airport safety.
