Flight Safety Foundation presented to Australian Transport Safety Bureau For dissemination of information about systemic problems affecting international efforts to ensure the continued airworthiness of transport category aircraft in its report “Investigation into Ansett Australia maintenance safety deficiencies and the control of continuing airworthiness of Class A aircraft.” In the report, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau presents the findings of a special investigation of local factors and international factors — including inadequate analysis and dissemination of safety-critical information — that contributed to an operator’s inadvertent omission of required damage-tolerance inspections of an aircraft model widely used in air carrier operations. The report includes the bureau’s recommendations for improving airworthiness-control procedures worldwide. Flight Safety Foundation and IHS Aviation Information, the award’s corporate sponsor, are pleased to recognize the Australian Transport Safety Bureau for its significant contribution to aviation safety awareness.
