Flight Safety Foundation–Airbus presented to René Amalberti, Ph.D. For his development of, and many contributions to, the field of cognitive ergonomics. Involved in aviation human factors research for the past quarter century, Dr. Amalberti played an important role in the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration task force on the interface between flight crews and modern flight deck systems that produced insights written into both European and U.S. flight deck certification standards. His expertise — technical and scientific, as well as organizational — has benefited numerous aviation groups, including those sponsored by the French Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile, Joint Aviation Authorities and the International Civil Aviation Organization. Dr. Amalberti, a member of the certification team for human factors for the Airbus A380, actively participated in the minimum-crew certification campaigns for the A320, A340 and A380. He is the author of numerous articles and books focusing on the complementary themes of human factors and safety, and influenced the integration of crew resource management into technical training at Airbus. He has been a major spokesman for the new concept of “organizational resilience” in the risk management culture. Flight Safety Foundation and Airbus are pleased to recognize the accomplishments of Dr. René Amalberti in the advancement and application of human factors research to flight deck certification.
