Flight Safety Foundation presented to Richard N. Aarons For sustained excellence in communicating practical lessons from aircraft accident/incident investigations through his Cause & Circumstance safety columns. Mr. Aarons’ research has tapped the world’s accident investigation authorities, manufacturers, operators, independent safety organizations and readers’ confidential reports, uncovering linkages among disparate sources and developing practical safety recommendations that add value to the findings of official reports. His columns have disseminated information that readers can use immediately, and often have transferred lessons learned in one sector of aviation, such as air carrier operations, to corporate and business flying. To gain a deeper understanding of issues, Mr. Aarons has flown accident scenarios in flight simulators for transport category airplanes, business jets and turboprop airplanes. During more than 30 years of research and writing about advanced aircraft systems and pilot performance, he has flown with manufacturers’ test pilots, formed strong relationships with safety investigators in government and industry, and participated directly and indirectly in the activities of several aviation safety organizations. Flight Safety Foundation and IHS Aviation Information (formerly IHS TransPort Data Solutions), the award’s corporate sponsor, are pleased to recognize Richard Aarons for his contributions to aviation safety.
