Established and first presented in 1996 (previously known as the Air BP Ramp Safety Award), this award recognizes outstanding or significant improvement in the ramp environment through innovation and implementation of a ramp safety program. Recipients have been honored for their efforts in such areas as prevention of ground-damage accidents, improvement of aircraft rescue and fire fighting services and reduction of injuries among baggage handlers.

The award includes complimentary registration to the FSF International Air Safety Seminar (IASS) for the award presentation and a handsome, wood-framed, hand-lettered citation.

The award is administered by the Foundation.

Historically, the Airport Safety Award has been presented anually. The Flight Safety Foundation Board of Governors and the award’s board agree that going forward this award will be presented every other year.

The nominating deadline is May 22, 2009; the award is presented at the IASS.
